The only other courses to have hosted The Open are Turnberry (4 times 1977-2009), Royal Cinque Ports (2, 1909, 1920), Prince's (1, 1932) and the only Northern Ireland course to host the Championship, Royal Portrush, 3 times between 1951 and 2025.

The 12-hole Prestwick course hosted the first 12 Opens 1860-70.

Turnberry (1977) was the last course to be used for the first time.

The longest course used for The Open was British Open course was Carnoustie in 2007 at 7,421 yards. The longest individual hole was at Royal Troon in 2024 when the par-5 sixth hole measured 523 yards. Troon also boasts the shortest ever hole at The Open, the par-3 eighth, measuring 123 yards. The hole was immortalised in 1973 when 71-year-old American Gene Sarazen, winner of the 1932 Open, holed-in-one on live television.
