The Solheim Cup is the women’s equivalent of the men’s Ryder Cup.
Launched in 1990, the trophy is named after golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim who played a big part in the inauguration of the Cup. Like its male counterpart, the Solheim Cup is played every two years and with a similar format to the Ryder Cup with 12 players each from the USA and Europe. The USA has won the Cup 11 times, with Europe winning on eight occasions.
